Some tungstates exist in the form of hydrates, and the solution is strongly alkaline; some are insoluble. Except for alkali metal, ammonium and magnesium salts, most of tungstates are insoluble in water. The crystals of tungstate contain ions of WO42-tetrahedral structure, which are slowly hydrolyzed and polymerized in aqueous solution, and quickly polymerized into isopolyacid salt in slightly acidic solution.
