What Are Tungstate Minerals?

Tungstate minerals are salt minerals formed by the combination of metal cations and tungstate [WO4]2−

The cations combined with tungstate are mainly calcium and lead, followed by copper, iron and aluminum. There are anhydrous scheelite Ca[WO4], tungstenite Pb[WO4], tungstenite Pb[WO4], water-containing high-iron tungsten Ca2Fe2ⅡFe2Ⅲ[WO4]7•9H2O, copper tungsten Cu2[WO4]( Nearly 10 kinds of minerals such as OH)2, wollite Al[WO4](OH)•H2O, wollite (Al,Fe)[WO4](OH)2.5H2O, etc. Among them, scheelite can accumulate in large quantities to form independent scheelite deposits. The crystals are mostly granular and plate-like. Except for darker colors such as yellowish-brown, yellow-red, and gray-green of tungsten ore, the others are mostly light colors such as white or light yellow. The density of tungstate minerals is relatively high, and the densities of scheelite and wolframite reach 6.1 g/cm3 and 8.3 g/cm3 respectively. The hardness is not high, but changes greatly. For example, the Mohs hardness of hydrated cerite and scheelite is 1, while that of anhydrous scheelite is 4.5-5.0. Tungstate minerals are mainly produced in contact metasomatization deposits, hydrothermal deposits and oxidation zones of tungsten-bearing deposits.
