Tungstates can be roughly divided into two types, namely, two types of salts containing tungstate (WO4) or polytungstate (W7O24) in anion. Some of the tungstates exist in the form of hydrates, and the solution is strongly alkaline, while some are insoluble; except for alkali metal, ammonium and magnesium salts, most of the tungstates are insoluble in water.
Common tungstates include tungstate (Na2WO4•2H2O), calcium tungstate (CaWO4), cobalt tungstate (CoWO4), cadmium tungstate (CdWO4), ferrous tungstate (FeWO4), ammonium tungstate [(NH4 ) 6W7O24 • 6H2O] and zinc tungstate (5ZnO • 12WO3) and so on. Tungstate is commonly used in various functional materials.
