What Is Brown Tungsten?

Brown tungsten is dioxide, because of its brown appearance, it is called brown tungsten. Like yellow tungsten, blue tungsten, and violet tungsten, brown tungsten is the industry’s common name for its color appearance. Brown tungsten (tungsten dioxide WO2) is a kind of chocolate-like powder. At 575~600℃, hydrogen will reduce tungsten trioxide to form tungsten dioxide. Brown tungsten (tungsten dioxide WO2) is insoluble in water, alkaline solution, hydrochloric acid and dilute sulfuric acid. Nitric acid can oxidize brown tungsten into high-valent oxides. Brown tungsten (tungsten dioxide WO2) is quickly oxidized to tungsten trioxide in air, and turns into a blue oxide when heated to 500°C in nitrogen oxide. Brown tungsten (tungsten dioxide WO2) can be reduced to metal tungsten powder by carbon at 1020°C.
