It is black crystals. The relative density is 5.20 (18/4°C), and it will decompose when heated to the melting point. Insoluble in cold water, ether, chloroform, soluble in absolute ethanol. In a closed tube, heat tungsten hexachloride and hydrogen iodide to 110°C.
