What is Tungsten Oxychloride?

The English name of tungsten oxychloride is Tungsten Oxytrichloride, its molecular formula is WOCl3, and its molecular weight is 306.25. The physical and chemical properties of tungsten oxychloride are as follows: tungsten oxychloride (Ⅴ) is formed into bendable black shiny needle crystals, the length of which can reach 10-20 mm, they are slightly hygroscopic and quite similar to tungsten oxychloride. It does not react with cold dilute hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid or nitric acid solution, ammonia solution or organic solvents such as 2-methoxyethanol, toluene, acetone and ethanol. Hot water reacts rapidly with tungsten(Ⅴ)oxychloride to form a dark blue solution and a precipitate. Cold sodium hydroxide solution or hot ammonia solution reacts rapidly with this compound, forming a light brown surface on the black needle crystals. Ammonia solution or sodium hydroxide solution containing 3% hydrogen peroxide can react with tungsten oxychloride (Ⅴ) immediately to form a clear solution.
