Tungsten dichloride is thin yellow platelets that are sensitive to atmospheric moisture. The reaction tubes must therefore be opened in a dry nitrogen atmosphere and stored under vacuum or dry inert gas. Decompose in hot water, insoluble in ethanol, soluble in ammonia and alkali.
