The Effect of Temperature on the Diamagnetic Properties of Tungsten Tetrabromide

Temperature has an effect on the diamagnetic properties of tungsten tetrabromide (WBr4). In general, tungsten tetrabromide exhibits strong diamagnetism at low temperatures. When the temperature drops to a certain level, its magnetism will gradually weaken until it turns into paramagnetism.

This temperature dependence can be explained by Coulomb’s law and the magnetic moment-temperature relationship. At low temperature, the interaction between tungsten ions and bromide ions in the molecules of tungsten tetrabromide is strong, and the magnetic moments are canceled out by each other, thus showing diamagnetism. As the temperature rises, the vibration and thermal energy inside the molecules increase, the interaction weakens, and the magnetic moments gradually cancel out, resulting in a change in magnetism.
