Electronic Configuration of Tungsten Tetrabromide

Tungsten tetrabromide (WBr4) is a compound composed of tungsten (W) and bromine (Br) elements. In tungsten tetrabromide, the electronic configuration of tungsten atoms is 1s² 2s² 2p⁶ 3s² 3p⁶ 3d¹⁰ 4s² 4p⁶ 4d¹⁰ 5s² 5p⁶ 5d⁴. The electron configuration of the bromine atom is 1s² 2s² 2p⁶ 3s² 3p⁶ 3d¹⁰ 4s² 4p⁶ 4d¹⁰ 5s² 5p⁶. Each bromine atom forms a chemical bond with a tungsten atom, sharing an electron pair. In the tungsten tetrabromide molecule, a tungsten atom and four bromine atoms are covalently linked together.

This electronic arrangement makes the electronic magnetic moments in the tungsten tetrabromide molecule cancel each other out, so that it does not exhibit magnetic behavior as a whole. This means that tungsten tetrabromide is a diamagnetic material and does not exhibit magnetism under an external magnetic field.
