What is White Tungstic Acid?

There are many types of tungstic acid, and its general formula is mWO3•nH2O. White tungstic acid is a microcrystalline white powder, where n:m>1.3, and the ratio of n to m varies with the preparation and drying conditions. White tungstic acid has significant activity, slightly photosensitivity, and easy reduction. It is prepared by adding sodium tungstate solution dropwise to dilute nitric acid. Decomposing peroxide tungstate aqueous solution with nitric acid can also obtain powdery white tungstic acid, which is less reactive than microcrystalline powdery white tungstic acid. White tungstic acid can be used to prepare various tungsten-containing isopolyacids and heteropolyacids, and can also be used to prepare tungsten carbide, low-valent tungsten cluster metal compounds, etc.
