Is There a Need to Use a Separator Between the Molybdenum Electrode and the Glass?

In some special cases, direct contact or interaction between the molybdenum electrode and the glass can be prevented by using an isolating material. This is mainly to take into account the following aspects:

Prevent transfer of impurities: The contact between the molybdenum electrode and the glass may cause transfer of impurities from the electrode into the glass, affecting the quality of the glass. Especially for some optical glass manufacturing which is very sensitive to impurities, the use of isolation materials can avoid the transfer of impurities.

Prevent chemical reaction: Under certain glass composition and melting conditions, the surface of the molybdenum electrode may chemically react with the glass, resulting in material deterioration or adverse effects. The possibility of this chemical reaction can be reduced by using an isolating material.

Protect the electrode surface: During the glass melting process, the electrode surface may be eroded by the glass solution or worn by particles. The use of a barrier material can provide a layer of protection and prolong the life of the molybdenum electrodes.
