China’s Rare Earth Exports in May 2023

According to customs data, China exported 581.5 tons of unlisted rare earth oxides in May 2023, an increase of 80% year-on-year and a month-on-month increase of 29.5%. During this period, the export of unlisted rare earth oxides still mainly flows to Japan. The amount of unlisted rare earth oxides exported to Japan from January to May 2023 is about 961 tons, accounting for 39% of the total export volume.

In May 2023, China’s export volume of rare earth permanent magnets was 4,459 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 8.5%.
