How Soluble Is Tungsten Oxide?

Tungsten oxide is almost insoluble in water, but can be dissolved in strong alkaline solution to form tungstate.

Tungsten oxide (WO3) has relatively low solubility under normal conditions. Its solubility in water is very low, about 0.1 mmol/L. This means that at normal temperature, only a very small amount of tungsten oxide can dissolve in water.

However, tungsten oxide dissolves better under acidic conditions. Strong acids (such as concentrated sulfuric acid) and some oxidizing agents (such as hydrogen peroxide) can increase the solubility of tungsten oxide. Under these conditions, tungsten oxide can form soluble acid salts or complexes.

It should be noted that solubility is also affected by other factors, such as temperature, pressure and pH value. Therefore, under certain conditions, the solubility of tungsten oxide may vary.
