Difference in Production Methods between Tetrabromotungsten and Hexabromotungsten

There are some differences in the production methods of tungsten tetrabromide (WBr4) and tungsten hexabromide (WBr6).

Production Method of Tungsten Tetrabromide: Tungsten tetrabromide is usually prepared by reacting tungsten powder with bromine. The process involves reacting tungsten powder with bromine gas under appropriate temperature and pressure conditions to produce tetrabromotungsten. Typically, this reaction is carried out in an inert atmosphere (e.g. nitrogen) to ensure the stability of the reactants and products.

Production method of tungsten hexabromide: The production method of tungsten hexabromide is relatively more complicated. Commonly, it is prepared by reacting tungsten metal with an excess of bromine. This reaction process requires strict control of temperature and reaction conditions to ensure efficient reaction and high purity of tungsten hexabromide. In addition, since tungsten hexabromide is sensitive to air and moisture, contact with these conditions needs to be avoided during the production process.
