The Use Difference between Tungsten Tetrabromide and Tungsten Pentabromide

Tungsten tetrabromide (WBr4) and tungsten pentabromide (WBr5) are different in use.

One of the main uses of tungsten tetrabromide is as a raw material for chemical reagents and catalysts. It is often used as a halogenating agent for fluoroalkanes in organic synthesis reactions, and can introduce bromine atoms into organic molecules. In addition, tungsten tetrabromide can also be used in other reactions in organic synthesis, such as aromatization and bromination of alcohols. It can also be used as a source of bromide ions, which has certain applications in inorganic chemistry and materials science.

Tungsten pentabromide has less applications in the chemical field, mainly due to its less stable properties. Since tungsten pentabromide is easy to decompose, it is rarely used in practical applications. However, due to its high reactivity, it may be catalytic in some specific chemical reactions, especially if the right conditions exist.
