Tungsten tetrabromide and tungsten tetraiodide are compounds of the transition metal tungsten and halogens (bromine and iodine), and they have some significant differences in redox properties.
First, tungsten tetrabromide exhibits certain oxidative properties in redox reactions. Under the right conditions, tungsten tetrabromide can accept electrons, reducing its oxidation state. This oxidizing property enables tungsten tetrabromide to participate in redox reactions with other species, where it may act as an electron acceptor.
In contrast, tungsten tetraiodide also exhibits oxidation, but its redox property is relatively strong. Under proper conditions, tungsten tetraiodide can more easily accept electrons, undergo a reduction reaction, and reduce its oxidation state. This relatively strong redox property makes tungsten tetraiodide more active in electron transfer reactions and more likely to participate in redox reactions.
