What Is a Discharge Tungsten Needle?

Discharge tungsten needle is an electrode material commonly used in electric discharge machining (EDM), plasma cutting, arc welding and other fields. It is made of metal tungsten powder as the main raw material, and usually adopts a slender, tapered design, which can easily enter narrow processing spaces and achieve high-precision processing results.

Discharge tungsten needles are used as electrode materials in electric discharge machining. They can withstand high-frequency electrical pulses and generate high-temperature and high-voltage arcs, thereby evaporating or dissolving metal materials on the surface of the workpiece to achieve precision machining. In plasma cutting, a discharge tungsten needle is used as a cutting electrode, which can generate high-temperature plasma and cut the material on the surface of the workpiece into the desired shape. In arc welding, a discharge tungsten needle is used as a welding electrode, which can generate a high-temperature arc to melt and connect the metal materials on the surface of the workpiece together.

Discharge tungsten needles have the advantages of high melting point, high hardness, high corrosion resistance and good electrical conductivity, so they are widely used in work in harsh environments such as high temperature, high pressure, strong corrosion and so on. The manufacturing process is relatively simple, generally using powder metallurgy process, where tungsten powder is mixed with other metal powders and pressed into shape, followed by sintering and processing.
