What Is a Spun Molybdenum Crucible?

Molybdenum Crucible is a molybdenum metal crucible made by spinning process. Different from forged molybdenum crucible, it usually uses high-purity molybdenum plate as raw material. It is plastically deformed by spinning equipment at high or room temperature to form a crucible shape with a certain curvature and uniform wall thickness.

  1. Definition and manufacturing process of spinning molybdenum crucible

Spinning is a metal plastic processing method. Its principle is to fix the molybdenum disc (or shallow plate) on the spindle of the spinning machine. While rotating at high speed, the spinning wheel gradually applies pressure on the surface of the molybdenum plate, causing it to deform layer by layer along the mold surface and gradually approach the target shape (usually a bowl or cylinder).

The main manufacturing processes include:

Material preparation: Use high-purity molybdenum plate (Mo≥99.95%);

Cutting and annealing: Cut the molybdenum plate into discs and perform annealing and softening treatment;

Spinning: cold or hot spinning by special spinning machine;

Heat treatment and correction: eliminate processing stress and ensure dimensional accuracy;

Finishing: Turning, welding bottom, drilling or other customized processing if necessary;

Inspection and cleaning: Check dimensions, surface defects, and perform cleaning.

High precision: uniform wall thickness and smooth inner surface, suitable for high-demand experiments or processes;

Lightweight: lighter than forged crucibles of the same size, which is beneficial to thermal response during high temperature rise and fall;

Flexible molding: suitable for customized special-shaped crucibles, such as oval, trapezoidal or with edge structure;

Low cost: suitable for batch processing of small and medium-sized crucibles, with high-cost performance;

Limitations: Spinning larger molybdenum crucibles is more difficult and more prone to cracking or deformation.
