Non-melting electrodes refer to electrodes that do not participate in melting and are not consumed during the welding process. It is primarily used to form and maintain arcs, but it itself is not melted into the weld by arc temperatures like melting electrodes.
In argon arc welding (TIG welding), tungsten electrodes are typical non-melting electrodes. Due to its extremely high melting point (about 3410°C) and good electrical conductivity, tungsten electrodes can withstand the high temperature of the arc for a long time without melting, thereby continuously and stably maintaining the existence of the arc and ensuring the continuity of the welding process and the quality of the weld.
The advantages of non-melting electrode include:
The electrode has a long life and does not require frequent replacement
The metal during the welding process is pure, avoiding the impurities of the electrode material mixed into the weld
Good arc stability and high welding quality
