Are Tungsten Electrodes Conductive?

Tungsten electrodes are of course conductive. As a metal material, tungsten has good electrical conductivity and can effectively conduct welding current.

In argon arc welding, one of the main functions of tungsten electrodes is to undertake the task of current transmission. The welding power supply directs the current into the welding area through the tungsten electrode, and the electrode ends generate a stable arc, forming a high-temperature heat source that melts the metal of the workpiece to complete the welding.

The high conductivity of tungsten ensures smooth conduction of current through the electrodes, keeping the arc stable and sustainable. At the same time, tungsten’s high melting point and high-temperature resistance make it indispensable for non-melting electrode materials in high-temperature arc environments, making it an indispensable non-melting electrode material in argon arc welding.
