Cerium tungsten electrodes are mainly suitable for direct current welding (DC), especially in argon arc welding with direct current negative electrode (DCEN).
This is because:
Cerium tungsten electrode has good electron emission performance and can provide stable and concentrated arcing under DC conditions.
Its low arc starting voltage is suitable for low current conditions, especially suitable for DC TIG welding of stainless steel, carbon steel, copper and other metals;
The electrode head is not easy to spherical in DC welding, and can maintain the shape of sharp corners, so that the arc is concentrated and the weld seam is narrower and finer.
It is often used in automated welding, thin plate welding, and precision welding, and is especially advantageous for DC welding.
Although it can barely be used for AC welding (AC) in some low-strength, non-critical applications, its performance is not as stable as pure tungsten, zirconium tungsten, or lanthanum tungsten electrodes, so it is not recommended for welding metals such as aluminum and magnesium that require AC welding.
