Can The Tungsten Electrode Continue to Be Used After Broken?

It is generally not recommended to continue using tungsten electrodes after they are broken for the following reasons:

Size Affects Installation And Use

Breakage can lead to insufficient electrode length and inability to be securely installed in the welding torch, affecting current conduction and welding stability.

The End Is Irregularly Shaped

The fracture surface is usually rough and uneven, and the electrode head cannot maintain a good sharp or spherical state, which can easily lead to arc instability and difficulty in arcing.

Safety Hazards

There may be cracks or hidden damage to the broken electrode, which is easy to break further during use, affecting welding safety.

Weld Quality Decreases

The use of broken electrodes is prone to arc tripping, uneven weld seams, inclusion defects, etc., which reduce the welding quality.

However, if the fracture is short and the end is in good condition, it is feasible to use it briefly in non-critical welding situations after resharpening, but it is not recommended for high-precision or critical welding.
