What Is the Current Situation of China’s Tungsten Electrode Exports?

As of 2024, China’s tungsten electrode exports have shown a steady growth trend, but they are also facing challenges from policy adjustments and changes in the international trade environment.

Overview Of The Current Situation Of Exports

According to Volza, from October 2023 to September 2024, China exported a total of 1,529 batches of tungsten electrodes, involving 398 exporters and 460 buyers, a year-on-year increase of 2%. Among them, India, Indonesia and Mexico are the main importers, accounting for 48% of China’s tungsten electrode exports.

Main Export Markets

India: The largest importer with 253 batches (18%).

Indonesia: 215 batches (16%).

Mexico: 201 lots (14%).

Policy And Market Dynamics

In February 2025, China imposed stricter export controls on critical minerals such as tungsten, requiring exporters to obtain permits to protect national security interests. This measure may lead to a decline in export volumes in the short term, but may also gradually resume through the licensing system.

Global Supply Position

China continues to dominate the global tungsten supply, with production of approximately 67,000 tons in 2024, accounting for 81.48% of the global production, and exports also accounting for a major portion of the global share.

Prospect

Despite the challenges of policy adjustments and changes in the international trade environment, China’s tungsten electrode exports still show growth potential. In the future, enterprises need to pay attention to changes in export control policies and actively adapt to international market demand to maintain competitiveness.
