What Is Copper Phosphotungstate?

Copper Phosphotungstate is the product of the reaction between phosphotungstic acid and copper nitrate. It is mainly used as a catalyst for oxidative desulfurization in petrochemical industry, catalyzing the synthesis of acetyl acetal, and catalyzing the green synthesis of tetrahydrofuran and acetal (ketone), etc. The chemical formula of copper phosphotungstic acid is Cu3(O40PW12)2, and the molecular weight of copper phosphotungstic acid is 5944.72.

Copper phosphotungstic acid catalyzes a series of aldehydes and acetic anhydride to synthesize the corresponding acetal. The results show that the mass ratio of aldehyde and acetic anhydride is 1:2, and the amount of copper phosphotungstic acid only needs to account for 0.5% of the aldehyde (molar ratio ) can make the reaction complete in a short time, and the product yield can reach 62%~96%. The catalyst can selectively react with aldehyde groups when aldehydes and ketones exist simultaneously.
