The oxidation performance of tungsten wire for textiles weaving gloves at high temperature is relatively poor. Tungsten easily reacts with oxygen in a high temperature environment to form tungsten oxide (WO₃), which affects its physical properties and life.
Oxidation behavior
Temperature effect: When tungsten is exposed to an environment above 400°C, the oxidation reaction begins to accelerate significantly. As the temperature further increases, the oxidation rate increases, and a layer of yellow tungsten oxide (WO₃) gradually forms on the surface of tungsten.
Oxidation process:
In the range of 400°C to 600°C, the formation of tungsten oxide is relatively slow. Above 700°C, the oxidation rate increases significantly, the oxide layer becomes thicker and gradually leads to the embrittlement of the tungsten wire, which may eventually lead to material failure.
Impact and protective measures
Impact:
Degradation of mechanical properties: Oxidation causes tungsten wire to become brittle, reducing its tensile strength and toughness.
Decreased conductivity: The formation of an oxide layer will affect the conductivity of tungsten wire.
Protective measures:
Protective atmosphere: When using tungsten wire at high temperatures, it is usually necessary to operate in an inert gas (such as argon) or vacuum environment to avoid oxidation.
Coating protection: The use of anti-oxidation coatings (such as hafnium and silicide coatings) can effectively delay the oxidation of tungsten and extend its service life.
Application recommendations
In applications involving high temperatures, if oxygen or other oxidizing gases are present in the environment, it is recommended to take appropriate protective measures to prevent the oxidation of tungsten wire.
In applications at extremely high temperatures (such as above 1500°C), the oxidation problem is more serious, so the use of tungsten wire in an inert atmosphere or vacuum conditions should be given priority.
