Tungsten trichloride is an octahedral cluster compound, which is a brown inorganic compound. Tungsten trichloride can be obtained from the chlorination reaction of tungsten dichloride. This cluster of tungsten trichloride has 12 dichloro-bridged ligands, and its structure is similar to that of niobium or tantalum chloride. In contrast, W6Cl12 has only 8 trichloro bridges.
