Molybdenum crucible mainly depends on its material and the environment in which it is used. The melting point of pure molybdenum is about 2623°C, so in theory, molybdenum crucible can be used at very high temperatures. However, in practical applications, it is limited by the following factors:
Oxidizing environment: Molybdenum easily reacts with oxygen at high temperatures (above about 500°C) to form molybdenum oxide (MoO₃), resulting in material loss. Therefore, in an oxygen-containing environment, the operating temperature of the molybdenum crucible is usually limited to below 400-500°C.
Inert or vacuum environment: Under vacuum or inert gas (such as argon, nitrogen) protection, molybdenum crucibles can withstand higher temperatures, usually up to 1700-2000 ° C, or even higher, depending on the manufacturing process and purity of the crucible.
Specific uses: Certain special molybdenum alloys or surface-treated molybdenum crucibles (such as coating protection) may further improve the temperature resistance, but it still needs to be determined according to the specific application scenario (such as smelting, sintering, etc.).
