The common tungsten electrodes on the market are mainly as follows, which can be divided into six categories according to their material composition and properties:
Pure tungsten electrode (green marking)
The main component is pure tungsten, which is suitable for AC welding, especially aluminum and magnesium alloys. The advantage is that the electrode tip is easy to form a good spherical shape and the arc is stable.
Thorium tungsten electrode (red or gold-red marked)
Contains 2%~4% thorium oxide, excellent arcing performance, stable arcing, widely used in DC welding, especially suitable for welding stainless steel and carbon steel. However, thorium is radioactive and needs to be used with safety protection.
Cerium tungsten electrode (gray or silver-gray marking)
Contains 1.5%~2% cerium oxide, easy arcing, suitable for low-current DC welding, often used for fine welding and electronic component welding, and has a long life.
Lanthanum tungsten electrode (black or gold marking)
Contains 1%~2% lanthanum oxide, takes into account DC and AC welding, has a stable arc and long life, is suitable for automatic welding, and is widely used.
Zirconium tungsten electrode (white marked)
Contains about 0.8%~1.2% zirconia, which is mainly used for AC welding, especially welding aluminum alloys, with good end spheroidization effect and stable arc.
Rare Earth Tungsten Electrode (Purple Mark)
Doped with a variety of rare earth elements, it has excellent comprehensive performance, is suitable for high-end welding equipment and special welding requirements, and has a high price.
