A zirconium tungsten electrode is a type of tungsten electrode doped with a small amount of zirconia, usually distinguished by a white marking. It is primarily used for alternating current argon arc welding (AC TIG) and is particularly suitable for welding light metal materials such as aluminum and magnesium. The addition of zirconia improves the high temperature resistance and mechanical stability of the electrode, allowing the electrode head to naturally form a regular spherical shape under the action of AC arcing, which helps stabilize the arc and ensure the smooth progress of the welding process.
Zirconium tungsten electrodes are welded with bright arcs, concentrated heat input, and resistance to pollution and ablation at high currents, maintaining a long service life. Although zirconium tungsten electrode is not suitable for DC welding, in the field of aluminum alloy welding, it is widely used in aerospace, shipbuilding, chemical equipment and food machinery and other industries with good spheroidization performance and stability, and has high requirements for welding quality.
