Argon arc welding tungsten electrode can be used to weld copper and copper alloys, but the following aspects need to be paid attention to when welding copper:
High Thermal Conductivity Material
The thermal conductivity of copper is very good, and the heat is quickly lost during welding, requiring a high arc heat input to ensure that the melt pool is fully melted. Larger diameter tungsten electrodes and higher currents are usually required while ensuring sufficient flow of shielding gas.
Electrode Selection
Generally, cerium-tungsten electrodes or thorium-tungsten electrodes are recommended, which have good arcing performance and high ablation resistance, and are suitable for high-current welding of copper.
Protective Gas
Pure argon is the most commonly used shielding gas, ensuring good gas protection and preventing oxidation in the welding area.
Welding Process Adjustment
Parameters such as welding speed, current, and electrode tip shape need to be adjusted according to the copper thickness and welding position to avoid weld defects caused by insufficient or excessive heat input.
