There are some differences in the thermal stability of tungsten tetrabromide (WBr4) and tungsten dibromide (WBr2):
Tungsten tetrabromide (WBr4): tetrabromotungsten has lower thermal stability and decomposes easily. At high temperature, tetrabromotungsten will undergo pyrolysis reaction and decompose into tungsten oxide and bromide. Its decomposition temperature is usually above 200°C.
Tungsten dibromide (WBr2): In contrast, tungsten dibromide is more thermally stable. At conventional temperatures, tungsten dibromide is relatively stable and does not decompose easily. Its thermal decomposition temperature is high and high temperatures are usually required to initiate its decomposition reaction.
