Difference in Chemical Properties between Tetrabromotungsten and Tungsten Dibromide

There are some chemical differences between tetrabromotungsten (WBr4) and dibromotungsten (WBr2). The following are their main differences:

Chemical valence: The tungsten element in tetrabromotungsten has a chemical valence of +4, while the tungsten element in tungsten dibromide has a chemical valence of +2.

Reactivity: Due to the different valency of tungsten, tungsten tetrabromide and tungsten dibromide show different reactivity in chemical reactions. Tungsten tetrabromide is more likely to participate in redox and substitution reactions, while tungsten dibromide is more likely to participate in coordination and addition reactions.

Solubility: Tetrabromotungsten has some solubility in some solvents, such as soluble in organic solvents. While tungsten dibromide is relatively insoluble in common solvents.

Acidity and alkalinity: Both tetrabromotungsten and tungsten dibromide can react with some strong acids to form corresponding salts. However, their acidity and alkalinity may be slightly different due to the difference in solubility.
