At present, there are two main forming methods for the production of cemented carbide round bars: molding and extrusion. The following is an introduction to these two methods:

Compression molding: It is a suitable method for short bar production. As the name suggests, carbide powder is pressed into shape using a mold. The advantage of this method is that it can be molded at one time, reducing the scrap rate, and it can save the drying cycle required by extrusion. The disadvantage is that the production cycle is long. Strictly speaking, isostatic pressing is also a type of compression molding. It is a suitable method for producing large and long carbide round bars. Through the upper and lower piston seals, the pressure pump injects the liquid medium into the high-pressure cylinder and Between the pressurized rubbers, the pressure is transmitted through the pressurized rubbers so that the cemented carbide powder is pressed and formed.

Extrusion molding: It is a suitable method for the production of long bars, which can be cut into any length desired by the user during the extrusion process. The overall length cannot exceed 350mm. When squeezing small diameter round bars below 3mm, cutting off both ends will waste a certain amount of material. The longer the length of the carbide small-diameter round bar, the worse the straightness of the blank. Of course, the problems of straightness and roundness can be improved by cylindrical grinding in the later stage.

Extrusion is a suitable method for the production of long bars, which can be cut into any length desired by the user during the extrusion process. But the overall length cannot exceed 350mm.
