What Are Components of A Carbide Indexable Insert?

Carbide indexable inserts are mainly composed of four parts: insert, tool shim, clamping element and tool body.

  1. Blade: It is the main component of indexable tools. It is usually made of carbide and has high hardness and high wear resistance. There are usually one or more cutting edges on the insert, which are used for actual cutting work.
  2. Blade shim: It is a component located under the blade. Its main function is to provide additional support and protect the cutting edge.
  3. Clamping element: used to clamp the blade on the cutter body to ensure the stability and accuracy of the blade during the cutting process.
  4. Cutter body: It is the base of the entire indexable tool, usually made of steel. The cutter body usually has interfaces and positioning holes for connecting clamping elements, as well as grooves for installing inserts.

In addition to the above four parts, carbide indexable inserts also have other components, such as chip flutes, cutting edge grinding patterns, etc. These components jointly determine the performance and cutting results of indexable tools.
